10 Great Forgotten Matches You Must Watch On WWE Network

8. "Flyin" Brian Pillman VS Jushin "Thunder" Liger (WCW SuperBrawl 1992)

WWE.comWWE.comThe purpose of a pay-per-view opening match is to get the crowd excited, and to prevent the show from starting off on a flat note. This match may be one of the best pay-per-view openers ever. Before WCW had the Cruiserweight division, it started the Light Heavyweight division, and to North American wrestling fans, the Light Heavyweights were unlike anything ever seen before. Keep in mind that this was 1992, when people like Hulk Hogan, Sid Justice and The Ultimate Warrior were big names for the WWF, and when people like Sting, Lex Luger and Vader were at the top of WCW. Seeing an international talent like Jushin "Thunder" Liger was unheard of at the time. Fans watching this style of match for the first time must have thought they had teleported 20 years into the future while they sat in amazement. Perhaps it was all too ahead-of-its-time, though, as the Light Heavyweight Title was only around for another six months after this match (it had only been around for four months when the match took place) before the belt, and the entire division, was scrapped and wouldn't be seen again until 1996, when the Cruiserweight Title was born.
