10 Great Matches From WWE No Mercy PPVs
8. Eddie Guerrero Vs. Batista - World Heavyweight Title (2005)
Everyone knows (are should know) what a world-class worker Eddie Guerrero was. On his day, he was untouchable, a pro in a league of his own. Batista doesn't have quite the same rep, despite delivering his fare share of belters over the years. The first signs that Big Dave was actually a superior worker came in 2005, first during his Hell in a Cell match with Triple H, and then in a gimmick-free environment against Eddie at No Mercy 2005.
The two had formed an uneasy alliance in the build up to the pay-per-view, with The Animal not convinced that Latino Heat was a full reformed character (this was just a couple of months after the whole Dominick/Rey Mysterio saga, to be fair). Going into their World Heavyweight Title showdown, Eddie was playing something of a tweener role and it made for captivating viewing.
What I like so much about this underrated match is that Eddie, despite giving up a serious height and weight advantage, wrestles so smartly and uses such good psychology that you never really notice. He's constantly wearing down Batista's back and controls a large part of the match. Batista's power game is no match for Eddie's craftiness.
There's also a cute bit at the end, where the ref is bumped and Eddie toys with the idea of using a steel chair to win. He doesn't, and it proves to be his downfall when Batista is able to hit a spinebuster for the three count. Eddie's last pay-per-view match (on his Birthday, no less), this proved that he was a superstar worker right up until the end, giving Batista one of his best PPV bouts to that point.
