10 Great SmackDown Matches From WWE's Original Brand Split

9. Los Guerreros Vs. Edge And Rey Mysterio (7 November 2002)

The SmackDown Six really came into their own when General Manager Stephanie McMahon unveiled the new WWE Tag Team Championships, exclusive to the brand. Eddie and Chavo Guerrero immediately teamed up to vie for the belts, and Edge and Rey Mysterio formed an alliance based on trust and friendship. Less stable though was the uneasy partnership between Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit. Nevertheless, Angle and Benoit beat Edge and Mysterio to become the inaugural champs.

After the victory, Edge and Mysterio beat Los Guerreros to qualify for a shot at the WWE Tag Team Titles, and that match came just a couple of weeks later on SmackDown. The bout, a best two-out-of-three falls match, wasn't just notable because of the quality, but because it actually went to four falls.

Edge and Mysterio got off to an early advantage, picking up a pinfall after some combination maneuvers. That didn't sit well with the champs, and despite their animosity toward one another, they were fluid as they picked up the second fall - Benoit hit Edge with a title belt, and Angle made him tap to the Ankle Lock. Rey then caught Angle with a sunset flip to seemingly win the third fall, but Angle's hand was on the rope, forcing a restart. Finally, a miscommunication led Benoit to hit Angle with the diving headbutt and Edge to get the pin, officially giving him and Rey the titles.
