10 Great Tag Teams That WWE Must Sign Today
6. The Briscoe Brothers
Depending on who you believe, Mark and Jay Briscoe either rejected the opportunity to join the WWE Performance Centre last summer, or the company decided they just didn’t fit the mould. Whatever the case, don’t expect to see them in WWE any time soon; the boys from Sandy Fork, Delaware signed brand new Ring of Honor contracts last year, and recently captured New Japan’s IWGP Tag Team Championships. They’re doing just fine for themselves, and their absence from Raw, SmackDown, and NXT is WWE’s loss.
The Briscoe Brothers’ record speaks for itself. Having held the ROH Tag Team Championships a record-breaking eight times, they’re the most decorated team in the company’s history and have been a cornerstone of ROH’s success since debuting in 2002. Their match history is peppered with indie wrestling classics (check-out their 2007 Ladder War with Kevin Steen & El Generico, if nothing else), and they’ve only just hit their 30s despite immense experience in America and Japan.
Signing the Briscoes should be a no-brainer. Mark and Jay are the standard by which all other ROH wrestlers are measured: they’re fantastic athletes, exciting characters, and Jay delivers some of the best promos in the business. WWE would be foolish not to make another run at them when their ROH contracts are next up for renewal.
