There weren't many positives to come out of the Invasion angle, but the work done by Kurt Angle and Stone Cold Steve Austin was definitely one of them. it was the emergence of Angle as a top level babyface that allowed Austin to go forward as the major heel on the Alliance side, and the two faced off at SummerSlam 2001, WWF Title on the line.

They spam finishers a little bit too much throughout, but this is an intense brawl that spends most of the time outside of the ring. The match ends with Austin being disqualified after abusing ref after ref after ref and, whilst the decision was a little frustrating at the time, it made sense in the context of the Invasion story.

The match itself great though, and the two told a great story. Angle was the proud challenger, Austin the desperate crazed champion willing to do whatever it takes to retain his belt. Austin wasn't in control of his temper but that worked to his advantage, and the title stayed with him.
