Fast forward one year to 2011, and The Nexus was already starting to become old news. One man who most certainly wasn't though, was CM Punk, using his superior mic skills to create a niche for himself as a 'pipebomb' waiting to explode any time he spoke on WWE television.

Lashing out at everyone from John Cena to Vince McMahon and Triple H, Punk used the verbal platform provided to him to prove that he belonged at the top of the card permanently. The story was that the guy's WWE contract was set to expire at midnight, just after the upcoming Money In The Bank Pay-Per-View, during which he would face Cena for the WWE Title.

Of course, Punk would emerge victorious in his home state of Illinois, and McMahon was left looking ashen as the wrestler escaped the arena with his belt. Presumably, Punk would hold WWE up in his absence, at least until they agreed to his terms of 'change' within the company, but that's not what happened. In fact, the man was back in time for the following month's SummerSlam event. There was simply no need to limit the time on this story to just a few weeks.
