2009 wasn't exactly a vintage year for WWE, but it was, all the same, a great one for the Intercontinental Championship - and much of the credit for that must go to Rey Mysterio, who enjoyed one of the best runs of his career.

After stealing the show alongside Chris Jericho at Extreme Rules and The Bash, Rey took on Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam, a pay-per-view for which he was once again penciled into the opening slot.

This seems to be, simultaneously, both an insult of his main event calibre talent and a compliment to his near-unrivaled ability to rouse the audience from their early-evening slumber - something he accomplished with victory over the The Showoff after 12 minutes of pure wrestling.

Our only complaint: as is the case with many on this list, it just a touch short.
