10 Greatest Cage Matches On The WWE Network
8. Chris Jericho Vs X-Pac - No Mercy 2000
Another feud involving two Attitude Era stalwarts threatening to get lost in the shuffle, another gem from a jam-packed age of WWE. Unlike Rikishi and Venis, these two weren’t willing to dwell in the midcard and put on a rowdy sprint designed to prove just how much they had to offer to the company. And it worked! (For one of them.)
Jericho is at his brash best here, cutting a delightfully annoying, catchphrase-laden promo that the hot crowd laps up. He could hardly be given a finer opponent than X-Pac, not quite at his popularity nadir but certainly approaching it in his unwillingness to let go of DX and all the crotch-chopping nonsense that comes with it.
The two show off their athleticism from the off and fill the match with neat details and creative spots, with Jericho slapping on the Liontamer atop the cage and a neat finish seeing Y2J foil X-Pac’s escape attempt by booting the door into his groin before hopping to the outside.
Far from the most brutal of steel cage showdowns, but another example of WWE’s deep bench.
