WWE: 10 Greatest Ever Sting Moments

8. Sting Vs. Ric Flair, Great American Bash 1990 - Sting Captures NWA World Title

In a match that was years in the making, Sting finally faced Ric Flair on a major show for the NWA Heavyweight title. Sting came to the ring with The Steiner Brothers, Paul Orndorff and The Junkyard Dog (dubbed the "Dudes with Attitudes") to prevent the Four Horsemen from interfering with the contest. In a repeat of their Clash of the Champions encounter, Ric Flair seemed to have Sting at the point of defeat, but the Stinger made a comeback after no-selling more of Ric Flair's chops. As Flair often does, he saved himself by going to Sting's injured knee and attempted to end things with the infamous Figure Four. However, this time Sting was ready for it and he cradled a surprised Flair for the three count to earn his first major world heavyweight title. As the babyfaces poured into the ring and the crowd celebrated, you had to feel like this was a long time coming for Sting. Injuries had prevented him from capturing the world title sooner €“ Sting felt almost a sense of relief for finally earning the NWA's biggest prize.
