Despite multiple, multiple attempts to prove otherwise (more on that later), 'Double J' couldn't sport a believable 'Attitude Era' veneer following his broadly successful return to the organisation in 1997, but a bizarre shoot promo in October that year kicked off a hilarious-in-hindsight run as a Jeff Jarrett truther in a time of great tumult.

The company was on the fringes of a cultural and commercial explosion following a shift to a reality-based product driven by the rise of Stone Cold Steve Austin and the exploitation of legitimate tensions between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart. Jarrett fancied a piece of the action, taking advantage of his live mic time with an explosive promo that inadvertently set his future main event aspirations ablaze.

Taking shots first at WCW supremo Eric Bischoff, he opened fire on Vince McMahon for the New Generation country music gimmick, Shawn Michaels for his rancid backstage attitude, and Stone Cold Steve Austin for his "blasphemous" 3:16 slogan.

'The Rattlesnake' was none too pleased with that, marking Jarrett's cards once he reached the top of the industry less than a year later. Jeff's remarks about working with "a black man that couldn't speak the English language" were unnecessarily caustic too. The opponent he was referring to had given his mind and body to Jarrett a year earlier...
