10 Greatest In-Ring Promos Of All Time

7. The Formation Of The New World Order

Whilst the extent of the 'shock' caused by Hulk Hogan's heel turn at Bash at the Beach '96 has been somewhat over-egged - the 'Hulkster' had been fading from popularity for years, and had teased a run under a black bandanna a year earlier - the betrayal in Daytona was nevertheless a watershed moment for WCW.

Every fan with even a modicum of interest in wrestling history knows how it went down: after 'Outsiders' Scott Hall and Kevin Nash hinted at a third man in their renegade faction, Hogan dramatically turned on Randy Savage to reveal himself as the mystery figure.

Gene Okerlund implored the turncoat for answers, and with the ring being pelted with rubbish from every direction, the former hero told fans to stick it. Gone were the days of "saying your prayers and eating your vitamins" - this was the New World Order of professional wrestling.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
