Nostalgia is a lucrative business. Fond recollections of the past are enough to make people yearn for even the smallest slice of days gone by, and with WWE struggling to generate new superstars in the last decade, the company have regularly relied on monetising memories. However, their constant reliance on re-selling fans their childhood has often served as a stark reminder that the bygone days really were better.

This was thrust into sharp focus during the opening vignette of WrestleMania XXX, where the three biggest stars the industry has ever known - Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, and The Rock - were somehow able to fit into a ring big enough for their mammoth legacies.

The scene caused utter delirium for long-time wrestling fans, and even Hogan fluffing the name of the stadium ("I'm sorry, we're in the Superdome, brother!") couldn't tarnish the magical moment.

Though nostalgia can often be toxic, this was the right time for it. However, it did raise the difficult question: could a moment like this be repeated in ten years time with a trio of current stars? It seems unlikely.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
