A genuine shocker of a reveal was Daniel Bryan’s return to WWE as the seventh member of John Cena’s team to face the Nexus at SummerSlam 2010.

Only two months earlier, the American Dragon was legitimately fired for kayfabe strangling Justin Roberts on the Nexus’ memorable main roster debut. He had returned to the independent circuit to cool the heat for a few months.

With the Great Khali having been put on the shelf by Nexus on the go-home RAW, Cena’s squad of seven was one man light heading to the Staples Centre. The Miz had stepped forward, but wouldn't give a final decision until the night of SummerSlam.

When Miz’s music hit, the Los Angeles crowd thought that they had their answer for Cena’s mystery partner, but WWE pulled a great swerve and announced Bryan instead.

It was great storytelling. Bryan had a history with several entities in the plot - he had been Miz’s rookie in NXT, and been kicked out of the Nexus. Yet his comeback was still a twist that very few saw coming, and kickstarted one of the best singles runs of the past decade.
