10 Greatest Paul Heyman Creations
1. The Extreme Revolution
When Paul E. Dangerously entered Eastern Championship Wrestling in 1993, few could have predicted just how much of an impact he would have on the wrestling industry. Originally brought on board to help younger talent develop their promo skills, Heyman would find himself in charge of creative within a matter of months.
One year later, ECW had pulled out of the National Wrestling Alliance, "Eastern" became "Extreme" and Heyman was leading his troops into the promised land. If wrestling was music, ECW was Nirvana and Paul Heyman was Kurt Cobain, set on blazing a trail and dragging the business into uncharted territory.
ECW became counter-culture, they became anti-establishment and they became an underground success as wrestling's alternative. Within mere years, ECW was the third biggest promotion in the United States and had garnered worldwide acclaim for their violence, realism, and gritty presentation. Through Heyman's credo of "hide the negatives, accentuate the positives", ECW became a global success, despite their humble beginnings and modest budget.
The ECW style of hardcore wrestling, incredible action, and adult-orientated product caught on with the '90s wrestling fans and forced the competition to follow suit. This paved the way for the Attitude Era and brought the business to heights it had never seen before, the effects of which are still being felt to this day.
