10 Greatest Title Changes In NXT History
9. Drew McIntyre Beat Bobby Roode – TakeOver: Brooklyn 3
Wrestling is full of great comeback stories and one of the most heart-warming in recent years is Drew McIntyre’s successful return to the WWE. The Scotsman first debuted for the WWE’s main roster in 2009, scooping the Intercontinental Championship and WWE Tag Team Championships along the way, before he was released in 2014.
McIntyre as Galloway then became one of the biggest names in independent wrestling, and not merely because he was 6’ 6”. He appeared for numerous top indie promotions, including ICW, WCPW, Evolve and TNA/Impact, where he became their World Heavyweight Champion in 2016.
All of this success (and his scary new beard) put McIntyre back on WWE’s radar and he reappeared in WWE in 2017. Now a member of NXT, McIntyre quickly earned himself a shot at the brand’s top title against Bobby Roode at TakeOver: Brooklyn III. In the main event of NXT’s biggest annual event, McIntyre captured NXT’s top belt and completed his incredible comeback story.
McIntyre had so much potential in his first run with WWE; it was heart-breaking to see such a talented star released so soon. Seeing McIntyre come back to the WWE and be treated like the star he is was hugely satisfying for his fans. His success has only continued to grow, as he now finds himself in the main event feud on Monday Night Raw.
Not bad for a former member of 3MB.
