10 Greatest Wrestlers From Quebec

8. Chief Don Eagle (Kahnawake)

Hailing from Quebec's largest Mohawk reserve just south of Montreal, Chief Don Eagle (a.k.a Carl Donald Bell) was one of the most skilled, popular Native wrestlers to ever step in the ring. He was also a legitimate fighter and Golden Gloves champion.

Note: in Canada, we just say “Native” as opposed to “Native Canadian.”

He was most notable for his ring gear and technical style, both of which stood out in the black and white days. In his best years, Eagle won the AWA Boston Heavyweight Title, and took on legends Lou Thesz and Gorgeous George.

Another feather in his cap (pun obviously intended) is that he trained possibly the greatest Native American wrestler of all-time, Chief Jay Strongbow who, incidentally, was not Native American at all.

On a less cheery note, Chief Don Eagle was also the victim of one of the earliest screwjobs ever televised, at the hands of Gorgeous George and one myopic referee.
