Most people will think “who?” but that's because they probably didn't get the NWA Network in the 40's.

Yvon “The Lion” is widely considered the first great wrestling star to come out of Quebec, and some people from these parts would probably consider fifth a low ranking.

He wrestled for the NWA, where he was briefly World Heavyweight Champion. He held the AWA Boston title twice in two separate stints, and would also win tag team gold twice.

Locally, he was a wildly popular draw, once earning a gate of over $20,000 CAD (approximately $13 trillion in 2016 money) for a match with Killer Kowalski.

He also held the Montreal International Heavyweight Championship sixteen times, like some kind of French-Canadian "Garçon de la Nature".

There's really not much else to add here. Yvon Robert is basically Montreal's answer to Lou Thesz.
