1. El Santo / The Saint

The legend incarnated, the ultimate luchador. That was El Santo; he who never trembled. The Saint, the last and only hope against the forces of evil. The spirit of justice, the defender of the weak. During his long-lasting career, El Santo conquered the hearts of Mexican spectators both in the ring and on the big screen, with more than 50 movie credits to his name by the end of his era. A man turned into myth, an anonymous icon guarded by a silver mask. Such was El Santo.
He was born in a small town near Mexico City in 1917, during the last few years of the Mexican Revolution. Later on (1932), he moved with his family to the big city where he started training Lucha Libre with his older brothers. He was only sixteen years old when he debuted, the rest is history.
El Santo graced professional rings for forty consecutive years, from 1942 to 1982. Nobody was able to remove his silver mask during those long decades, although he did reveal his face during an interview after his retirement.
