10 Greatest WWE World Title Storylines In WrestleMania History

2. Andre The Giant Challenges Hulk Hogan (1987)

Another situation where one of Hulk's allies betrays him. For three years, Hogan reigned supreme as WWF Champion. As would be pointed out, not once did Hogan defend the gold against immovable Andre, who remained loyal to The Hulkster. In story, Andre was 'suspended' for the latter portion of 1986, only for nemesis Bobby Heenan to help overturn the suspension. Why? Because Heenan needed the ultimate weapon to dethrone Hogan, and brainwashed the looming monster into thinking that Hogan was ducking him. Things came to a head on Piper's Pit in early-1987, when Heenan accompanied Andre to confront Hogan, much to Hogan's bewilderment. A suddenly more grave-spirited Andre demanded a title match at WrestleMania III, and then ripped Hogan's crucifix necklace off to complete the stunning turn. Andre would then eliminate Hogan single-handedly from a battle royal on the March 14, 1987 Saturday Night's Main Event, leaving the impression that Hogan had finally met his match.
