10 Hidden Gem WCW Pay-Per-View Matches
4. Blitzkrieg Vs. Juventud Guerrera - Spring Stampede 99
At Spring Stampede 99, Blitzkrieg was largely unknown. He only had a handful of televised matches to his name, and had only been in WCW for two months at the time. But with his show-opening effort against Juvi, it briefly looked like he was set to be the next great Cruiserweight star.
WCW had already peaked by the time Stampede 99 came around, and fans began leaving in droves. Still, the crowd was hot that night, and despite having no reason to rally around either wrestler from a character standpoint, they were incredibly into the bout.
Blitzkrieg was just insane. He was so damn fast, with an incredible arsenal at his disposal. Juvi matched him move-for-move, and more than held up his end of the fight. There were a few sloppy spots in the match, but it didn’t attract from the entertainment. If anything, it helped things feel a little more realistic. It’s a good thing that they didn’t botch the finisher, which was an absolutely insane top rope Juvi Driver, as that could have been fatal.
It’s too bad we didn’t get more matches from them, or even a Best-of-7 series. Perhaps if they did, they could have kept around a few more of those fans who quit watching the product.
