10 Hidden WCW Gems To Watch On WWE Network
7. Davey Boy Smith Vs. Big Van Vader: Slamboree 1993
1993 WCW as a whole is something of a hidden gem, with many forgetting that Ted Turner's rasslin' company was brimming with so much talent at that point. And at the top of the tree when it came to talent, was Harley Race's Big Van Vader.
For those who only saw Vader for the latter days of his WWF run, it's impossible to describe just how much of an unstoppable, intimidating, nightmare-inducing presence he was during his time in WCW. Menacingly, methodically walking to the ring, complete with smoke bellowing from his helmet (easy now...), Vader was a genuinely terrifying proposition.
After Davey Boy Smith turned up in WCW in 1993, it didn't take long before the British Bulldog was mixing it up with Vader. And one such match that some fans may not be familiar with, is the pair's clash at 1993's Slamboree PPV.
This was at a time when Bulldog could still perform at a top, top level, and his Slamboree match with Vader was as close as we ever really got to seeing Davey Boy win a major World Championship. After hitting his signature Powerslam on the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Smith would see his pinfall attempt broken up by Race, before Vader then hit his opponent with a chair to end the match in a DQ fashion.
Many look at Bulldog's matches with Bret and Owen Hart as being his best outings, but it's definitely fair to throw Vader into the mix when discussing Davey Boy Smith's best opponents.
