10 Highest Attended Non-WrestleMania Events In WWE History
4. WWE Global Warning Tour 2002 - 56,734
As WWE started to move away from the Attitude Era, they also began expanding to a world market, trying to put the "World" in World Wrestling Entertainment.
As part of the Global Warning tour in 2002, WWE made a stop in Melbourne, Australia and drew 56,000 fans into Colonial Stadium. This was the first time WWE had hosted an event in Australia since 1986 and the crowd was absolutely rabid for the show.
Since WWE knew this would be a huge event, it was taped for a DVD release and treated basically as an international pay-per-view event.
The card featured some major star power as Kurt Angle defeated Test, Lance Storm and Christian teamed up to defeat Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman, and Edge pinned Chris Jericho. As usual for WWE at the time, Torrie Wilson and Stacy Keibler engaged in a bra and panties match which probably sucked if you were in the last row of the arena. Or the first.
In a main event match that WWE would kill for today, The Rock defeated Brock Lesnar and Triple H to retain his world title while Paul Heyman did his thing on the outside.
Despite drawing such a huge crowd, WWE never returned to the venue allegedly due to damage to the surface of the arena.
