The early days of AEW Dynamite now resemble something of a bygone era.

They came and went so fast, yet so fluidly. Its second instalment on 9 October 2019 exemplified this statement, boasting the perfect combination for an episodic wrestling show; exquisite matches, hot angles, and dazzling storytelling.

For this particular broadcast, not everything landed. Darby Allin and Jimmy Havoc's World Championship contendership bout was passable, if not rendering the purported crucial win/loss records system irrelevant. Where it was right, though, it was marvelous.

A show-opening quarterfinal bout in the World Tag Team Championships tournament saw the Young Bucks emphatically lose to upstarts Private Party in a gripping exchange rife with wrestling psychology that set Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy on their journey. Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara's formulaic main event victory against Dustin Rhodes and Adam Page was followed by a post-match angle that carved out a chunk of the AEW lore that was to follow, including Jericho and Cody Rhodes' AEW World Championship feud, and the Young Bucks vs. Ortiz and Santana.

On paper, it doesn't seem like much, considering how noteworthy modern-day Dynamites traditionally are. Go out of your way to rewatch it, though; it's mint.
