10 Holy Grail WWE Dark Matches You Wish You Could've Seen
2. Kurt Angle vs Owen Hart - Shotgun Saturday Night 22/05/1999
This entry comes with a tinge of sadness, as it features one of the greatest tragedies in WWE history.
Kurt Angle memorably debuted at the 1999 Survivor Series, but had been signed with the company for over a year before this happened. He trained extensively to prepare himself for TV, wrestling numerous interesting names like Brian Christopher, Stevie Richards, Hardcore Holly, and a young Teddy Hart.
His most tantalising dark match went down prior to Shotgun Saturday Night on May 22nd 1999 (which was taped on May 10th). His opponent was another technically sound wrestler who wasn't adverse to making a goofball of himself - the one and only Owen Hart.
The Rocket defeated Angle in a match that, in a different context, would have brought the house down. Sadly, these two never got the chance to face each other again, as Owen died just two weeks after the match and one day after the episode of Shotgun was broadcast.
Hart's passing left multiple "What Ifs" in its wake, but a future rivalry with a fully-fledged Kurt Angle has got to be one of the biggest.
