The Motor City Machines Guns were a terrific team in TNA. Alex Shelley's duo with Chris Sabin harkened back to the days of The Rockers or The Hardy Boys - the Machine Guns looked like a team, worked like a team and were well-received by the fans because of this. Since departing TNA a few years ago, Shelley has torn it up in New Japan Pro Wrestling, teaming with Kushida as the Timesplitters, and subsequently winning the IWGP Tag-Team Titles twice. The tandem also won the Super Junior Tag-Team Tournament in 2012, and it's clear that Alex Shelley excels in tag-team wrestling. The idea of bringing him into WWE revolves around the tag scene. WWE have some great young teams, such as The Usos, Cesaro & Tyson Kidd, and even others such as Los Matadores, who can be useful with the right opponents. Why not bring Shelley in and team him with somebody up-and-coming from NXT? Hideo Itami could be one suggestion, to see if Shelley could rekindle the magic he has with Kushida (sadly, it's unlikely WWE would be interested in him, although stranger things have happened).
