10 Huge Wrestling Matches That Were Put On The Scrap Heap
8. Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair (WrestleMania VIII)
For a lot of fans, this remains one of the biggest and best matches to be planned for WrestleMania, then cruelly snatched away just weeks before it happened. At the Royal Rumble 1992, Ric Flair would win the WWF Heavyweight Title in the 30-man over the top rope match itself, and it seemed 'Mania would be the perfect show on which to have Hulk Hogan challenge him for the gold. Coming into the WWF in the latter months of 1991, Flair was announced by manager Bobby Heenan as the 'real' World Champion, alluding to the fact that he had never actually lost the NWA Title whilst in WCW. At first, the promotion tried to get away with showing the belt, but a crude editing job had to be done on Flair's pre-taped appearances once Ted Turner and company threatened legal action. Working together on the house show circuit in the Winter of '91, both Hogan and Flair shockingly didn't draw massive houses when advertised against one another, and interest started to dwindle from Vince McMahon in promoting the bumper bout at WrestleMania. On the big show, Flair was instead paired with Randy Savage, whilst Hogan went up against the monstrous Sid Justice.
