10 Huge Wrestling Matches That Were Put On The Scrap Heap

5. Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels (WrestleMania 13)

That elusive confrontation against Hulk Hogan wouldn't be the last time that Bret Hart was forced to give up dreams of beating an opponent for the WWF Title. Having dropped the big belt to Shawn Michaels in a long-winded Iron Man encounter at WrestleMania XII, Hart was under the impression that the plan all along was for Michaels to return the favour the following year. The WrestleMania 13 match would never happen - instead, Michaels vacated the title, claiming he couldn't compete due to injury, but Hart wasn't buying it, feeling that Shawn simply didn't want to get beaten for the title. In years since, HBK has said that he wasn't in a good place, and wishes he'd handled a lot of business differently, it's likely that this is one of occasions. Hart would square off with Steve Austin at 'Mania, leading to an infamous - and incredibly well-received - double turn. The subsequent heel run, which would still see Bret intriguingly play babyface in Canada, was some of the best work of his career.
