10 Important Steps In Goldberg's Evolution

6. The End Of The Winning Streak At Starrcade '98

Like all things in life, Bill Goldberg's undefeated streak simply couldn't last. According to legendary manager and announcer, Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan, WCW should have never ended Goldberg's winning run. At Starrcade 1998, it did come to an end however, and Bill was left on the losing end by Kevin Nash. Interference from Scott Hall - complete with a taser, of all things - helped Nash pick up the victory. People were left stunned at Starrcade, because seeing Goldberg lose was a distinctly new feeling. Even though it had been over a year of continuing victories, the general feeling was that Bill Goldberg wasn't quite ready to suffer a loss. In later years, Nash argued that Goldberg was earning diminishing reactions from the WCW fans. Beating him was the best idea in order to help him progress, or so it was claimed. Those around ringside definitely disagreed, and this was a massive moment in the career of the man. Suddenly, a 173 match winning streak was destroyed for many by one loss.
