By 2000, World Championship Wrestling was in disarray. Even short-term planning was out the window, and things seemed to be changing from week-to-week with no real rhyme or purpose. That last statement directly sums up Goldberg's heel turn in June at The Great American Bash Pay-Per-View. Having returned from injury in May, Goldberg needlessly turned villain on Kevin Nash at the PPV. Aligning himself with the 'New Blood' faction headed up by both Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo, Bill later admitted he wasn't ever really comfortable with the switch. Fans agreed, because virtually nobody wanted to boo Goldberg, one of WCW's remaining few draws. By the time the New Blood Rising show rolled around in August, Goldberg was back on the babyface side of things. Confusingly, he walked out on a 3-Way match also involving Nash and Scott Steiner at the event. The main plot point told by announcers was that he had "deviated from the script", which was just another example of Russo's bogus 'shoot' storylines.
