10 Incredible WCW Storylines That Never Got Resolved
4. Ric Flair Gets Buried
There is no punch line here. Ric Flair was literally buried in the sandy Las Vegas desert by the Filthy Animals comprised of Eddie Guerrerro, Konnan, Billy Kidman, Rey Mysterio, and Torrie Wilson. Lets paint the picture. Diamond Dallas Page pinned Flair in a strap match and afterwards, proceeded to bludgeon him with a crowbar. Flair was taken out on a stretcher, but before he could be transported, the animals came out of nowhere, pummeled Flair, threw him in the back of the ambulance, commandeered the vehicle, drove off, and showed footage of the burial the next night on Monday Nitro. This all stemmed from Torrie Wilson cheating on Ric Flairs son, David Flair, and hooking up with Billy Kidman. David wanted revenge like any jilted lover, but was jumped by the Filthy Animals for his troubles, and Ric helped his son in an attempt to settle the score. Vince Russo, who was the head of WCW creative at the time, stated in a 2013 interview with Kayfabe Commentaries that he was embarrassed with how the previous regime was making Ric Flair look old. Russos plan was to have Flair put on the shelf for three months, bring him back, and highlight the Nature Boy as a true legend Several months later, like in true WCW fashion, they had Ric Flair return to television as if nothing happened. Flair mentioned in his book that he asked creative how he was supposed to explain how he got out of the desert and was told Well, were not going to worry about that.
