10 Incredible Wrestlers Who STILL Don't Get The Praise They Deserve

4. Jonathan Gresham

Eddie Kingston
Ring Of Honor

This long time ROH star is the smoothest technical wrestler in the world this side of Zack Sabre Jr.

After a period of inactivity owing to ROH's 2020 hiatus due to COVID-19, Gresham was crowned Pure Champion. He was the first holder of the belt in almost 15 years. The title provided a great showcase for Gresham's crisp and intricate mat work.

Nicknamed 'The Octopus' on account of his penchant for the octopus stretch submission hold, Gresham's entrance gear rivals Malakai Black's in the spooky department. He sports a monstrous, tentacled mask that looks like something straight out of a Lovecraftian nightmare.

The horror movie-worthy gear adds a menacing aura to Gresham's more intellectual approach to wrestling. Within his slick chain wrestling, counters, takedowns and submission holds is a hint of sadism and cruelty. Overall, his sharp, otherwise grounded persona benefits greatly from this surprise layer of darkness.

Outside of ROH, Gresham has wrestled all over the world but is yet to really catch fire. Most frustrating of all is the lack of recognition his old school scientific wrestling receives, especially given the renewed interest in the technical genre in recent years.

At 33, Gresham presumably has a lot left in the tank and plenty of time to rack up the acclaim his near-flawless ring work deserves. Whether that's in ROH or somewhere else remains to be seen. Perhaps a return to New Japan and another go at their Best of the Super Juniors tournament in 2022 could be his hot ticket.
