10 Infamous Wrestling Matches That Took Place Outside The Ring
7. Macho Man Vs. Crush - Falls Count Anywhere (WrestleMania X)
WrestleMania X was Macho Man Randy Savage's final WrestleMania appearance and it came against real-life friend and television friend-turned-foe Crush.
The two men had been feuding since Crush returned from injury in late '93 and turned against Savage, attacking him and aligning with Mr. Fuji. Savage, who had been used primarily as the RAW colour commentator, was irate and would clash with Crush anytime they were in the same building. This lead to President Jack Tunney "suspending" Macho from the announce booth, although this was obviously for kayfabe reasons only.
The stage was set for WrestleMania X and the first ever Falls Count Anywhere match, an appropriate stipulation that reflected the chaotic nature of their feud. The two men had battled all over the arena and backstage areas at previous shows and the ring just wasn't going to be able to contain them.
For WrestleMania X, the rule was that, after a 3 count, the pinned wrestler had 60 seconds to get back into the ring otherwise the match was over. Savage got the victory by pinning Crush in a backstage area and tying him upside down so Crush could not return to the ring in time.
While the concept of the Falls Count Anywhere match was a good idea, there were obvious holes that the company still needed to iron out over the years. Still, it was the first of its kind in WWE and it deserves recognition for that fact.
