Seven years after WrestleMania X, the World Wrestling Federation would again present a match in which most of the action and highlights took place outside the ring. This time, the promotion was running hot at the tail-end of the Attitude Era, and more physical matches involving chairs, tables and other weapons had become commonplace.

These career-shortening matches were so regular that WWE even created its own Hardcore Championship to be defended exclusively in "hardcore matches" where there was no disqualification, no countout and often involved endless amounts of weapons.

The Hardcore title was defended at WrestleMania X-Seven and many consider it the greatest Hardcore title match in WWE history, which champion Raven defending against Big Show and Kane in a Triple Threat Match.

The match started in the ring, but soon spilled to the back of the Astrodome where Raven even employed the use of a golf cart to try and run down Big Show (and almost ruined the whole show when he inadvertently ran over a wire that was connected to the PPV power supply).

The conclusion came when, back out in the arena, Kane kicked Raven and Big Show off the WrestleMania stage and delivered a flying leg/elbow drop onto the Big Show to score the victory and secure the Hardcore Championship.
