10 Infamous WWE Conspiracy Theories
3. WWE Covers Up Gay Sex Scandal
WWE.comPat Patterson was the first Intercontinental Champion, and is an executive for the WWE who is openly gay. He is well respected in the wrestling community, but has a pretty dark cloud that hanging over his head. A gay sex scandal broke out in 1992 involving Pat Patterson and his friend, Terry Garvin, who also worked for the WWE at the time.
Murray Hodgson, a 29 year old announcer, filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the WWE, claiming that he was fired after turning down one of Patterson's advances. According to Hodgson, Patterson's favorite pickup line was "So you're the new guy. What do you taste like?" This issue was largely dismissed as ridiculous, but gained traction when others came forward with accusations of assault involving either Garvin or Patterson.
This was the last thing that the WWE needed at the time because they were involved in a steroid investigation at the time, so it was more or less swept under the rug and settled out of court. Patterson and Garvin both resigned from their positions, but Patterson was rehired a year later, and became a prominent figure during the attitude era as one of Vince McMahon's "Stooges." Was Patterson innocent, and just a victim of homophobia, or did the WWE help sweep clean any wrongdoings?
