10 Insane Details Wrestlers Put Into Gimmicks (And WWE Didn’t Care)

1. Dean Ambrose Foreshadows The Demise Of The Shield...

...but Vince McMahon was too obsessed with diseases to care.

Enhanced by an incredible Network special on his long and arduous recovery from what had been his first major injury layoff in WWE, Dean Ambrose wanted his 2018 return to be laced with the anger of a man on the edge.

Cut adrift from the travelling sh*tkicker life he loved, Ambrose wanted to project himself as a raging inferno who could no longer be trusted (or expected) to stand idly in a corner awaiting a tag or laughing and joking as he pulled a red wagon to the ring.

He illustrated his fraying psyche by emerging in Rollins' corner at SummerSlam with an tattered old Shield jacket flailing and unzipped. He'd position himself behind 'The Architect' in ways that looked sure to set up his "brother" getting drilled with a Dirty Deeds. It was the type of elegance you'd expect from a Jon Moxley, in truth. But Jon Moxley never worked for WWE.

When time came for 'The Lunatic Fringe' to turn, McMahon wanted Roman Reigns' leukaemia announcement to be at the heart of it. When Ambrose gave that a flat f*ck off, they compromised on making him a fool in a gas mask, literally sickened by the stench of the general public and what they deemed to be acceptable. It was trite and meaningless, and as good as chased Jonathan Good into the arms of their nascent competitor.
