10 Insane Details Wrestlers Put Into Gimmicks (And WWE Didn’t Care)

6. The New Day's KofiMania Gear

Always always awesome with their gear, The New Day knocked their WrestleMania 35 choice out of the park, having gear designed by the brilliant Jonathan Davenport in homage to famed New York graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The late Basquiat was known for tackling issues such as segregation, anti-colonialism and inner city poverty - paying tribute to his work "in the shadow of New York City" on the night Kofi Kingston made history in becoming WWE Champion felt just about as perfect as the victory itself.

In merely pushing Kingston in the manner they did before and after his awesome 2019 title win, WWE were at very least attempting to acknowledge the unfair divides that had existed in the company for generations. Noting exactly what Kofi, Big E and Xavier Woods were referencing here and in the months that followed would have only enhanced what felt at the time like a significant tonal shift.
