10 Insane Details Wrestlers Put Into Gimmicks (And WWE Didn’t Care)
5. The Rhodes To WrestleMania Lead Nowhere
When he wasn't failing to hide his outright disdain for the company WWE had become (or, really, already was) during his tenure, Cody Rhodes was trying to build a match he'd ultimately have to form his own company to get.
His sibling rivalry with Goldust was almost exclusively for the primitive Redditors of the day, existing more as lore for those who watched post-show promos like the ones above and/or the expression on Rhodes' face in pointless six-man tag matches alongside The Ascension during what proved to be an absurd final few years with the company.
He'd have looked sympathetic if he wasn't covered in Aladdin Sane tribute act face paint and making cat noises all the time, not least after how over the pair got as anti-Authority babyfaces staving off The Shield in 2013. This wasn't just a man trying to will a programme into existence either - it was two. Dustin was on the same mission, determined to wink and nod in Cody's direction as often as possible to make the match for a WrestleMania they both thought it worthy of.
Cody's Dusty Rhodes-inspired attire at his final 'Show Of Shows' was as close as they got to bringing the family business to 'The Grandest Stage'.
