WWE caused uproar amongst its talents by forcing them to shut down numerous third platform accounts last October. So much so, there was all kinds of talks of certain wrestlers seriously looking into unionization for the industry.

With WWE threatening fines, suspensions and even firings for those who didn't comply with this new instruction, some of those impacted by this were Paige, Zelina Vega, Aleister Black, Cesaro and AJ Styles. In the case of Vega, so irked was she by this company mandate, she pushed back to WWE management to the extent that she ended up fired.

As so many of those superstars involved at the time said, taking to Twitch was a great help to their own personal mental health. This was a break from the real world and the wrestling ring, with talent able to take a step back and enjoy the online communities they'd forged; something that was particularly helpful during the pandemic days where so many of us were stuck indoors due to COVID regulations and restrictions.

For WWE, they just saw streaming and Cameo work as something they could latch onto themselves to spin a few extra dollars for the company by having any such stuff happen under the WWE banner rather than directly by the individuals involved.
