6. Austin & Hart's Career-Ending Injuries
It'd be impossible to talk about moments that shot fear into the hearts of fans worldwide without addressing the various injuries of professional wrestling, so why not put these two bitter rivals and all-time legends together?
'Stone Cold' Steve Austin infamously had his career shortened at SummerSlam 1997 in a 'Kiss My Ass' match against Owen Hart. During the match, Hart went for a piledriver that went horribly wrong due to Austin's head being way too close to the ground. With his head colliding with the canvas, 'The Rattlesnake' found himself with a broken neck and a short-lived case or paralysis. His career may have continued on for a number of years, but this injury set his expiration timer.
While Austin initially recovered and still had his best years ahead of him, Bret Hart wasn't so lucky. Starrcade 1999's main event saw Hart take on Goldberg for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. During the match, Bret took a wildly botched mule kick to the face by Goldberg that literally concussed him into retirement. At least he came out of retirement for that classic WrestleMania XXVI bout with Vince...
