When CM Punk dropped his infamous 'pipe bomb' promo in 2011's 'Summer of Punk', he dug up John Laurinaitis as a "glad-handed, nonsensical, douchebag yes man" for Vince McMahon behind the scenes. Laurinaitis by that time was largely known for his work in talent relations (and off screen), having retired as an active wrestler in 2000. But 'Johnny Ace' was brought in as the General Manager of Raw after making sporadic appearances on television following Punk's tell-all interview, in 2011. But it became quickly evident that Laurinaitis was far better suited to his role behind the scenes, given his decidedly awful presence on screen. His voice sounded like nails down a chalkboard and his complete lack of personality failed to establish him with either the Superstars or the audience. Ironically, and somewhat funnily, Laurinaitis christened himself 'Mr. Excitement' in a clear move to mock himself, and constantly pushed his 'People Power' catchphrase in order to establish some kind of bond. But Ace was seriously not good for television, and he was removed from his role by Vince McMahon.
