10 Least Over Wrestlers To Ever Headline WWE WrestleMania

After beating Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VI, The Ultimate Warrior flopped in the role of WWF Champion. Despite the disappointing reign, it was plain as day that the biggest match on offer for WrestleMania VII was Hogan vs. Warrior II.

Instead, fans got Sgt. Slaughter vs. 'The Hulkster' in a tasteless wrestling rendition of the Gulf War going on at the time. The once uber-patriotic Slaughter, now a Saddam Hussein fanatic with a Hussein lookalike cornering him, inexplicably beat Warrior for the title to begin his ridiculous run as an anti-American American.

The backlash to Slaughter left the WWF claiming they had to hightail to the comparatively pint-sized Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena instead for safety. However, many in the know claimed it was because ticket sales were about as existent as praise for the Slaughter heel turn. Fearing a bust, McMahon and co. didn't change course creatively but did throw in the towel financially.

While The Ultimate Warrior enjoyed the best match of his career against Randy Savage, Hogan sliced his forehead six ways to Sunday in a bid to get the match over. Hulkamania, while still big, was growing stale and Hogan didn't manage to save the day on the business front. His foe, a solid brawler in his day, had, at best, go away heat with viewers.

For Slaughter, after five years in the dying AWA, this disastrous title run was no doubt a great paycheque. Otherwise, this was a match and angle that should never have happened.
