10 Least Over Wrestlers To Ever Headline WWE WrestleMania

Kevin Nash's least favourite WrestleMania main eventer became, it goes without saying, one of WWE's biggest regrets a mere three years after the fact.

Before the murder-suicide tragedy that rocked the industry in 2007, Benoit had an upstanding reputation as one of the greatest technical wrestlers the world had ever seen. While he didn't quite have the charisma, look or showmanship of a top star, he received plentiful fan support on account of his near superhuman work rate.

In '04, WWE was struggling in the lead babyface department. The only new star since Rock and Austin left in '02 to take off was Brock Lesnar, a natural heel at the time. Benoit, a cult favourite who loved the business more than anything, was given a shot in early '04. While his surprise Royal Rumble win got a big pop, his nonsensical entry into the superlative Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels feud on RAW turned him into an immediate third wheel.

Benoit did not have the pizazz of Shawn Michaels or the fire of Triple H and felt like a fish out of water during the three's segments. While his win at WrestleMania XX was emotional, his total lack of drawing power as champ said it all. Despite his in-ring abilities, Benoit was not the man for the top job, making Michaels and especially Triple H's efforts to put him over at Madison Square Garden all the more egregious.
