10 Lessons From History That Could Solve All Of WWE's Problems
8. Pair A Top Heel With A Diva
It's an idea that has worked brilliantly a few times in wrestling history. Think of Elizabeth with Randy Savage or Lita with Edge. The dynamic of both pairs were great. Savage treated Elizabeth poorly for years, they split apart and then she was there when he needed her, so he turned face at WrestleMania 7 in 1991. It was an easy story to tell, but it also worked because they were patient with it. With Lita and Edge, it was a lot raunchier. Edge was stuck as a midcard wrestler for a few years. Then his real life affair with Lita became known, they were paired up on television and he took off from there. It was easy to hate a guy that stole Matt Hardy's girlfriend, but it was also great for his career. They need to find that dynamic with somebody in WWE today. They've paired up Lana with Rusev and it's fair to say that she's definitely helped him, but they're also doing an easy "America sucks" gimmick. Rosa Mendes with Fandango isn't going to be some main event level pairing. What WWE needs to do is find the right mix of putting a superstar on the rise with a diva and do what they can to try to make them look like bigger stars. It's a formula that can work really well.
