The Wrestling Observer's Bryan Alvarez is suggesting that recently released ex-WWE star Kairi Sane could well be in line for a shock/hasty comeback at Backlash this weekend. Alvarez reckons that'd make sense due to Sane's importance to the broader IYO SKY vs. Asuka story that has been told on episodes of Raw.

The former Damage CTRL stablemates are scheduled to clash on WWE's coming PLE, so it would make perfect sense if Kairi was involved somehow. However, Asuka appeared to draw a line under Sane's involvement during recent promos - she noted that Kairi had disappointed her, so she decided to cut ties.

Sane was one of 23 releases from the roster. Then, a further 4 names were added to the list shortly afterwards, including New Day duo Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, as well as JC Mateo and Tonga Loa of the MFTs group.

Chants of, "We Want Kairi" and a social media drive (complete with the hashtag #WeWantKairi) have spotlighted recent editions of WWE television. If the creative team wants to silence those and put a bow on the entire story between all 3 women, then Sane might have to fly in for Saturday's PLE in Tampa.

Sources within the promotion tell Alvarez that there's "a better than 50% chance" of Kairi being in the house to "finish off that storyline". Then, all going well, WWE can move onto other things. It does, however, seem like a must that Sane is included as a cameo artist somehow.
