10 LIES WWE Told You About WrestleMania
5. The Royal Rumble Winner Main Events

The Royal Rumble winner gets the main event spot at WrestleMania, right? That's what WWE says year after year.
Win the Rumble, headline 'Mania. Easy.
But in reality, it's not always that simple. WWE loves to promote this stipulation, but history tells a different story.
Take 2008, for example. John Cena won the Royal Rumble and, alongside Triple H, challenged Randy Orton halfway through 'Mania 24. And let's not forget 2012, when Sheamus won the Rumble but his match against Daniel Bryan opened 'Mania 28. It's even worse for the female winners, who only had the main event once until WWE expanded the Showcase of the Immortals to two nights.
Even more recently, in 2017, Randy Orton won the Rumble, but his disappointing match against Bray Wyatt was in the middle of WrestleMania 33; (that one might not have been a bad thing actually). The true main event was the disappointing clash between Roman Reigns and The Undertaker.
It's even worse for the female winners, who only had the main event once until WWE expanded the Showcase of the Immortals to two nights. So much for the guaranteed headline spot.
WWE continues to keep the myth alive, but the reality is, the Royal Rumble winner doesn't always get the coveted main event.
