10 "Little Guys" Who Should Have Been WWE Champion
1. Roddy Piper
In what should qualify as one of the most egregious mistakes in the history of the WWE, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper never captured the WWE Championship. In his decade or so with the company, the powers that be never once saw fit to let Piper hoist the big title.
Why? Well, because quite frankly, he didn't need it. Other top stars in the company needed that title to validate their spot in the main event. Hulk Hogan needed the title to make him look like the top babyface.
Ultimate Warrior needed the title to sustain his status as a main event contender. Piper? All he needed was a microphone and people would instantly buy him as a top talent.
And physique be damned, what Piper lacked in muscle mass he more than made up for in charisma and craftiness. He was like a slightly smaller Ric Flair. How do you not respect and admire a guy like that?
It's unfortunate that his natural abilities actually kept him away from his rightful position at the top of the heap, one could argue that it makes a fair amount of business sense.
Does that make it all right? Of course not. But maybe it will help some of us who still hold grudges over the matter sleep a little better at night.
