WrestleMania may be the top draw when it comes to wrestling's biggest annual weekend, but WWE is far from the only show in town.

Independent promotions - chief among them, Ring of Honor and EVOLVE Wrestling - typically come to town in the days before the show of shows, looking to sell the hardcore fans on a very different style of competition.

While in town, I made the no-brainer decision to check out both of the shows EVOLVE ran in Dallas - one on Friday at 4:00 PM and the other on Saturday at 12:00 PM. While there are many events scheduled for the same time, and choosing one often means missing others, I left both shows knowing that I had made the right decision by attending.

EVOLVE places more of a premium on in-ring action than WWE, meaning that the style of the show is typically match after match after match, with promos or confrontations occasionally thrown in between the bouts.

If that sounds like it's not your cup of tea, I can promise that it's still worth a shot. If EVOLVE ever comes to your neck of the woods, it's an absolute must-see. If it doesn't, the shows are worth checking out on iPPV or Blu-Ray.
