10 Live Observations From WWE Extreme Rules 2016
1. Seth Rollins Should Be Top Babyface
Fans were furious when Roman Reigns defeated AJ Styles, but at least we were sent home happy - after the main event, Seth Rollins made his long-awaited return, running into the ring and drilling Reigns with a Pedigree.
I've been in a lot of wrestling crowds in my time, but the pop for Rollins's return was louder than anything I've heard in years. Fans were legitimately surprised to see him, and completely elated when they processed what was happening.
So, if WWE has a star who can conceivably be a popular babyface, why can't they just run with him? Why not let Seth Rollins take Roman Reigns's spot, and have a champion people might actually cheer? Yes, ratings were low during the end of Rollins's title reign, but they haven't been better since Reigns took over (apart from allowing for the end of football season).
There's even an elegant way to do it - as Wale proposed on Twitter, a SummerSlam bout between Rollins and Reigns would be the perfect site for a double turn. Reigns could keep the title, as long as he did it via underhanded means and it was made clear that Rollins was the new main babyface going forward.
Of course, none of that is likely to happen. It looks like Rollins versus Reigns will headline Money in the Bank, and by SummerSlam, both men will be on to something new. As for who wins this program in reality? The Reigns-Styles feud was a clue.
