7. Don't Get Your Hopes Up Over The Ascension

Recently on SmackDown, the unthinkable happened. After months of being buried so deep they were on the verge of breaking past the Earth's crust, The Ascension of all teams actually picked up a pinfall victory for the first time in who knows how long. Many have speculated that the team may finally be returning to the limelight. Some even speculated that they might pull off an upset victory for the SmackDown Tag Team titles at Elimination Chamber. However those people should probably lower their expectations for the time being, because this show made it clear that WWE isn't ready to dig them out of their hole just yet.

Viktor was booked in a match against Mojo Rawley, in which the former NXT darlings were both decimated and humiliated by the Hype Bro, before he finally picked up the pinfall win against his opponent.

Moreover, the fans in attendance didn't seem to be able to care about The Ascension if they tried. The crowd was on fire for nearly the entire show, but as soon as The Ascension's music came over the loudspeakers, you could practically feel the excitement and enthusiasm being sucked out of the room.

Right now it seems like, unfortunately, the team really did peak down in NXT. In addition, considering that not only did the two fail to capture the championship the following night at Elimination Chamber, but it was also Viktor who took the fall, this point seems to have been driven home.
