That briefcase might as well be the 1990s Women's Championship in that it needs lifting clean out of the trash if WWE still want fans to care about it.

Becky Lynch's news was lovely, but this resulted in no briefcase holder in the women's division for the third year in a row after Bayley and Alexa Bliss cashed in theirs on the same night back in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar greedily gobbling up the case last year has nothing on poor Otis being left out in the cold by management and Miz picking one of the thickest possible moments to use his ill-gotten prize.

Now a crutch more than a force for good, the case often renders the holder a jobber for months on end even if they do eventually cash it in successfully. The gimmick needs a rethink, or at very least a reset back to the days of Edge holding it through to the following January or even Carmella's record-breaking 287 days with it.

The contracts there to build suspense, drama and ideally a new star, on just about any show you wish. It's a golden ticket for creative staff as much as it is the wrestlers, and high time they took advantage of that again.
